Operations Manager

Hi, I'm the Site Operations Manager at the Edinburgh Bakery and I’ve been at Burton’s for 37 years. My role involves ensuring our employees are kept safe and have the necessary training to carry out their roles. I also work with Operations and cross functional teams to make sure we produce the best quality product, on time and to the right cost.
My typical day starts with a SIC (Short Interval control) meeting at 7.20am to review the performance of the plant KPIs on start up. This is followed by a daily compliance walk on selected lines as part of our Leader Standard work approach using Redzone. That’s our Operating tool which provides real-time performance data we use to improve plant performance. Afterwards I’m normally in meetings about things like Labour & production planning requirements.
I love the ever-changing challenges we face as a business and how we respond to them, as well as all the people who make what we do possible. Burton’s has always supported me in various ways, including internal/external training throughout my career progression. But importantly, they have also allowed me to express myself in my roles and use all the skills I’ve learnt in my time with the company.
My advice for anyone thinking about joining the Burton’s family is, if you want to join a progressive company with great people and are willing to work hard to get the right results and rewards for your efforts, then Burton’s Biscuits is the company for you.

Favourite Biscuit. - Jaffa cakes! The Jaffa cake line was where I started my career at Burton’s and I love them just as much now as I did then.

Deborah Hilton

Hi, I work in New Product Development and have been at Burton’s for over 25 years! My role is important to the future of our company, creating new and exciting products for the market and keeping our customers happy and coming back for more. Working in development, no two days are the same. One day could be like an episode of the "Bake Off" and then the next day I could be running a whole biscuit plant on a trial. I love working at Burton’s as they have supported me with training which has allowed me to further my career, as well as having the best teammates and baking the best biscuits. If you’re thinking of joining the Burton’s family, it’s a great place to work and feel part of a team with excellent career opportunities – and of course there is always lots of tea and biscuits!
