Leadership Team

Burton’s Biscuit Company is jointly led by Nick Field, CEO and Simon Browne, Managing director. Simon and Nick took over leadership of the business following the divestment of the Cadbury biscuits business to Mondelez in 2016. New Burton’s was born in late 2016 with a single purpose of “baking great biscuits” and a clear strategy to focus on our outstanding baking credentials, developing and extending our capability for our iconic British brands, alongside our commitment to baking the very best biscuits for our Retail and Co-Manufacturing partners alike.
Nick Field
Nick Field

Nick joined Burton’s in 2004, having previously worked for PwC where he gained his ACA qualification. Following a number of commercial and financial roles, Nick joined the Burton's Board in 2009, where he progressed to CFO in 2014, before taking over as CEO in 2016. Nick says "I love working in this industry, and I love Burton’s. We have outstanding people and amazing baking capability, and it is a genuine privilege to lead this great company alongside Simon and the rest of the Board".
My favourite biscuit is the Malteser biscuit, as it brings to life the amazing Malteser flavour with a perfect biscuit crunch.

Simon Browne
Managing Director
Simon Browne Simon joined Burton’s in 2015, prior to that working for a number of large FMCG businesses. He started his career with Cadbury, spent 9 years with Kraft foods, working in local and global roles. He then joined Reckitt Benckiser responsible for Europe and latterly spending 3 years in North America Before joining Burton’s he was head of the Global Customer Supply chain for GSK. During Simon’s career he has worked across a diverse number of categories and geography’s both in commercial and supply chain.
Favourite biscuit? Maryland Minis, they taste incredible with a cup of coffee as a pick me up!
Sarah Spittle
Company Finance Director
Sarah Spittle Sarah joined the business in 2008, taking on various finance roles before becoming Finance Director in early 2017. She has worked on a number of business strategy projects including the restructure of the business in 2008, the sale of Ontario Teachers Pension Plan in 2013 and the sale of the Cadbury licence in 2016. Sarah trained as an accountant with PWC and worked as a finance professional in a number of consumer facing businesses including Whitbread and Threshers.
Favourite Biscuit? Thomas Fudge's Florentine - the perfect treat so long as you only eat one!
Hayley Kingdom
HR Director
Hayley Kingdom Hayley started with Burton’s the first time in 2015 and then returned as HR Director in 2017 as she loved the business so much. Hayley has spent all of her career in the Retail and FMCG industry, including HR leadership roles at Tesco Head Office, EasyJet and Dixons. She has a passion for doing the right thing for our teams and making the environment better for all of our 1,600 colleagues – in fact she describes herself as the ‘Director of Fun’!

Tom Riley
Operational Finance Director
Tom Riley Tom joined Burton’s in 2013 and has held a number of roles including Group Financial Controller and Commercial Financial Controller. Tom was appointed to the Board in January 2020 and is responsible for the sound financial management of Burton’s. Before joining Burton’s Tom held a number of roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers across the Liverpool and Manchester offices advising listed, private equity backed and family owned businesses. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Tom’s favourite biscuit is the Jammie Dodger owing to the smile on his daughter’s face whenever he brings a pack home.
Kate Needham
Marketing Director
Kate Needham Kate is our Marketing Director and joined Burton’s in September 2018. Kate previously worked for Nestle Rowntree, Monkhill Confectionery, Richmond Ice Cream and Fox's Biscuits in various Innovation and Marketing Roles. Kate's mission is to share her passion for Burton's amazing products with all of our consumers, customers and colleagues.
Favourite Biscuit? Marmite Breakfast Bakes.....great with a cappuccino as a perfect start to the day!
Jo Harwood
Sales Director
Jo Harwood Jo started with Burton’s in 2007 as a Senior Business Account Manager. Over the past 10 years she's held a number of different roles within the Sales function, and in March 2017, became Sales Director for the UK and Ireland. Jo says "I am extremely passionate about building strong partnerships with our customers." Favourite Biscuit: Thomas Fudges Milk Chocolate Florentines
Paul Cooper
Head of Information Systems
Paul Cooper Paul started his career working in clinical diagnostics research & development before heading off to University, after which he joined the Northern Foods Graduate Programme. During his time at Northern, Paul held various roles in operations, latterly he was the Business Systems Director for the Group. After leaving Northern and spending a couple of years with a Technology Consultancy Paul joined Burton’s in 2012 to lead the Information Systems function.

Brian Byrne
Procurement Director
Brian Byrne Brian joined Burton’s in early 2021, Brian has worked across the UK and Europe holding a number several senior leadership roles in sourcing, procurement and commercial strategy. With experience across food manufacturing and retail Brian has also worked as a consultant to several large food businesses and is a member of The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply.

Des Bull
Director of Customer Supply Chain
Des Bull Des joined Burton's in 2020. Before this he held various supply chain, logistics, customer services and project management roles at a range of global FMCG companies, including Cadbury, Ferrero, Carlsberg and Grupo Bimbo. Des’s passion is to ensure a ready supply of our fantastic brands into the homes of all our biscuit fans!
Favourite Biscuits? Thomas Fudge's Flapjacks – definitely too good to share with the kids!
David Godsmark
Technical Director
David Godsmark David has been with Burton’s for over 10 years, and currently leads the capital investment, asset strategy,  Health & Safety and Quality and Food Safety functions. A Chartered Chemical Engineer by training, David started his career with Mars in 1988, and spent over 20 years working in various roles in Engineering, Maintenance and Finance across the Mars European network, creating production assets for Twix, Tracker, Skittles, Starburst.. Along the way David also completed his CIMA exams back in the late ‘90s.

Chris Clarke
Manufacturing Director
Chris Clarke Chris has been with Burton’s since 2003. In this time he has held various management  positions across the whole of the Supply Chain Network. These include senior leadership roles in manufacturing, copacking and logistics. Prior to this Chris spent 11 years with McVitie’s and started his career in biscuits way back in 1992 as a Manufacturing Management Trainee. He is currently one of two Manufacturing Directors, with responsibility for Blackpool and Llantarnam, our two biggest sites.

Alan Goldie
Manufacturing Director
Alan Goldie Alan joined Burton's early 2015 after 25 years in the dairy industry working for Robert Wiseman Dairies and Muller. After spending 19 years in Production with responsibility for UK sites and supporting Wisemans growth to become the largest liquid milk processor in the UK. He moved into Supply Chain with responsibility for Production, Warehousing and Logistics and a focus on designing and implementing improvement projects across the business. Alan is responsible for our Scottish and Dorset sites.
Favourite Biscuit? I do have a sweet tooth but savoury is my weakness so it's Salt and Vinegar Fish 'n' Chips all the way!
