Ian Wallis - New Product Development

What do you do at Burton's? 
Hello I’m Ian I work in New Product Development Department and transfer any new biscuit from a sample in the kitchen all the way to production. I work with lots of different departments, Production staff, Technical, Commercial, Sales/Marketing, Planning and Engineering

What does your typical day look like? 
Lots of Meetings with the NPD team to discuss and look at any new products coming up and working on how to make it come to life. We also revisit existing products to improve how they are made.

How long have you worked at Burton's? 
I started working at Thomas Fudges which is part of Burton's since 1990 a very long time, during this time i have had many roles such as a Craft Baker, Line leader and a Shift Manager.

Why do you love working at Burton's?
I have been here for a long time and seen lots of changes from a family run business to a more commercial run business. The people are key and we work together to make it successful.

What is your favourite part of your role?
I love to see our product on shelves in shop’s and being a part of that journey.

How has Burton's supported you and your development?
Fudge's and Burton's have supported me in every job role that I have has giving me valuable training and allowing me to learn on the job.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining the family?
Go for it! there is lots to do and lots of opportunities to learn and develop!
