Fiona Robertson, Commercial Finance Assitant Manager

What do you do at Burton's?
I'm an Assistant Manager within the Commercial Finance team and lead aspects of financial reporting, forecasting and analysis from the weekly call to the full year forecast and budgeting process. I also still maintain some business partnering relationships being the Commercial Finance contact for Sainsbury's and Mars.

What does your typical day look like?
Day to day can include preparing financial reports whether it be for the current period or future forecasts, completing P&Ls to look at the feasibility of new product ideas or analysing commercial numbers to ensure a robust financial position.

How long have you worked at Burton's?
I completed a placement year with Burton's back in 2014/15 during my sandwich year course at University and then re-joined the business once I had completed my degree in summer of 2016. Therefore to date including my placement I've worked here nearly 4 and a half years. When coming back to Burton's after University I started off within the International team as an International Finance Analyst before moving over to join the UK & Eire team.

Why do you love working at Burton's?
The people and the culture at Burton's is what makes it such a fun and enjoyable place to work. Everyone in all departments are extremely friendly and helpful and it very much feels like we are all working towards the same goal.

What is your favourite part of your role?
My favourite part of the job is that I get to see a real oversight of the total business whilst still maintaining close cross-functional relationships. My role allows me to have a thorough understanding of the Burton's journey and track it throughout the year. Being a part of the Commercial Finance team is also a massive part of why I love my job, as along with the rest of Burton's we are a supportive, inclusive team.

How has Burton's supported you and your development?
Being a qualified accountant is my long-term aim and Burton's have supported me on every piece of that journey. I am coming towards the end of my studies but along the way Burton's have encouraged me to be my best, opened up new opportunities to expand my financial experience wherever possible, and pushed me to enable my confidence to grow.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining the family?
I would say Burton's is 100% somewhere I would recommend anyone to join, particularly if they like a fast-paced environment and more importantly enjoy eating biscuits! I loved my placement year so much I was delighted when I had the opportunity to come back. The upbeat friendly culture is definitely a contagious environment anyone would want to work in and I'm proud to say I work here.
