Burton’s Box Yarn Bombed!
The Post box opposite the entrance of Burton’s Biscuits HQ has had a Christmas makeover – one of 82 local post boxes to be adored with festive toppers under the cover of darkness, waiting to be discovered on 1st December.
The toppers are knitted, sewn, crocheted and assembled by a team of volunteer YarnBombers, raising money for local causes each year through sponsorship and public donations. All monies raised will be split between this year’s two nominated local charities, Youth Talk and ADD-Vance.
Founded in 2018, the much-loved yarn-bombers trail is one of the biggest fundraising initiatives in St Albans, Hertfordshire raising over £64,000 to date for local charities.
Co-founder Clare Suttie said: “What started as a modest fundraising event with 23 toppers has been embraced by the people and businesses of the area, and you can feel the excitement building in November.
"The great thing about St Albans Postboxes is that it brings together the whole community - businesses sponsoring, individuals donating, local charities benefitting - bringing a smile to many faces. 2021 sees a record number of toppers, a bigger team of volunteers and we can't wait to see everyone out and about finding them all.”
Kate Needham said: “Many of our team live locally and look forward to the arrival of the festive toppers each year – a talking point at Burton’s through early December. When the opportunity arose for Burton’s to sponsor the post box outside our HQ this year, we we’re delighted to get involved and support two worthy local causes.”
This year’s charitable partners are Youth Talk, which provides free, confidential counselling to people aged between 13 and 25 year olds in St Albans and surrounding areas, and Hertfordshire based charity ADD-vance - who support families affected by ADHD, Autism or a related condition.
