Showing We Care....

SHOWING WE CARE…

Burton’s Biscuits is adding a charitable new dimension to the nationwide ‘Clap for Carers’ campaign which applauds the fantastic work being done by the NHS, carers and others battling to contain the Coronavirus.

As the nation united again last night (Thursday) at 8pm to show its appreciation, teams across Burton’s bakeries were hard at work in the knowledge that the equivalent volume of every single biscuit produced between 8pm and 9pm will be donated to the NHS.

Supply Chain Director Tim Walker was quick to acknowledge the contribution being made by everyone in Burton’s, not just to keep biscuits on supermarket shelves but also to ensure that a plentiful supply can be donated to the NHS and charities, to keep spirits high.

He said: “We’ve taken steps to provide the safest possible working environment for all our colleagues which is enabling us to maintain consistently high levels of production. This in turn means that we’re making a difference to hundreds of thousands of lives by donating great tasting, much needed biscuits.”

He estimated that Burton’s bakeries produced over 20 tonnes of biscuits between 8pm and 9pm last night, the equivalent of over 1 million biscuits.

Since the start of the pandemic, people all over the country have been expressing their gratitude for the way in which we have kept production going.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust Charity Director Sofia Sheikh summed up people’s feelings when she told us: ““A simple thing like a biscuit should not be underestimated in times like these.”
