Burton’s Biscuits are owned by a Private Equity Owned business Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP or Teachers for short) and form part of their c.$200 B Net Assets portfolio. Working in partnership with Teachers, has allowed Burtons Biscuits to become a forward thinking and progressive business.
In order to ensure we can continue to make fantastic biscuits, and to help us on this amazing journey, we are proud to announce that in 2019 we completed the acquisition of a premium sweet and savoury biscuit manufacturer Thomas Fudge’s, also in 2019 we acquired Scottish bakers Paterson Arran. This increases our baking capabilities across a number of new sweet and savoury categories.
As a result, we now have 6 bakery sites across the UK, located in Blackpool, Livingston, Edinburgh, Dorset, Isle of Arran and Llantarnam, with our head office in St Albans. In total we employ circa 2,000 people around across our locations.

Why join us as a Technical Assistant?
You role will be to provide office administrative support to the Technical Team, in an extremely busy and fast paced function. Hygiene, Food Quality and H&S is at the forefront of everything we look to do, from making sure every biscuit we bake is of the highest quality, through to ensuring that day to day safety and hygiene standards are achieved best standards possible.
In order to maintain the best standards, there is a lot of ‘paperwork’ that needs to be checked, scanned, saved and inputted into various files and systems.
Some of your main task will cover:
- Technical administrative support to ensure timely issuing of accurate KPI’s
- Assist in ensuring up to date and accurate records of complaints, ensuring that they are distributed and returned to complaint handling company.
- Preparation of Technical Review data as required for technical meetings and site reviews
- Creation, amendments and control of process documentation, Quality Attribute Sheets (QAS), procedure and technical Standard Operation Procedure documentation,
- Maintenance and distribution of product recipes to Operation and finance departments as required
- Bind factory record books as required
- Health Declarations – ensure signatures are obtained, check for any non-standard answers, escalate non-compliance where identified and file securely
- Ensuring factory line product specifications are amended and kept up to date as necessary
- Assist the QA Team to log and dispatch customer samples as required
- Support the Technical Team with meetings, administration, hospitality arrangements
- Provide technical with support during site audits and visits
What are the key ingredients needed for the role?
You will need to demonstrate previous experience working in a food manufacturing environment and are familiar with food safety standards and process i.e Machine Operator, Process Operator etc.
OR demonstrate that you worked in a very fast paced administration role, where record keeping is of the upmost important.
You must the comfortable to get up to speed with various systems quickly, strong attention to detail and be able to use MS Office i.e. Word & Excel.
This is a very busy role, but where some tasks can become repetitive, so you need to be enthusiastic and reliable. Pro activeness will be encourage, as this is a role where you can look to recommend improvements to managing large amounts of ‘paperwork’. After 6 months for the right candidate this role can offer some development and progression once you have become familiar with the current processes.
As you will be communicating with lots of different departments, good written and verbal communication skills are essential. You will need to be able to prioritise skills and be comfortable working both individually and part of a team
