This is a full time Monday- Friday role. Hours will be 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm alternating weekly.
The Role of Packing Floor Line Leader
As a Line Leader on the packing floor, you will be responsible for supporting your Shift Operations Manager (SOM) the delivery of the production plan and targets/ KPIs (Key performance indicators) over an 8-hour period. You will take full responsibility for the labour on your line, escalating any issues where necessary. You may also have the opportunity to be actively involved in Continuous Improvement activities and other projects. A proportion of your time will also be spent ‘on-line’ as a Machine Operator.
Key Responsibilities of a Machine Operator:
Accurately enter the correct date code and day letter for the product, as specified by the Daily Production Plan, into the Markem/Avery coding machine and ensure the code is legible on the product wrap/label
Operate and maintain the wrapping machine and other related machinery ensuring the highest possible quality of wrapped product
Maintain a tight control of the level of waste product
Carry out and record on the process control sheets (if applicable) periodic checks on the quality of the product and wrap
Ensure the good housekeeping of the work area and that hygiene schedules are strictly adhered to
Prior to use, ensure the wrapping machinery is in safe working condition
At the request of the Training Coordinator / Line Manager , support new machine operators in the learning of their duties and responsibilities
Carry out metal detection checks to ensure no contamination to the product.
As a line leader, your additional responsibilities will be:
Continually develop our safety systems to improve the safety & wellbeing of our employees
Support the operations team to continuously improve plant output whilst meeting the requirements of a complex, high volume production site.
Delivery of financial budget aligned with the delivery of KPI’s (waste, TOS, efficiency, machine uptime, planned tonnage)
Support embedding site principles as part of the Edinburgh Improvement Strategy within area
Ensure process control documents, SIC boards and other reporting methods are adhered to.
Deliver the production KPI’s, such as efficiency, waste, employee numbers.
Identify and implement corrective actions to improve operating performance.
Participate in joint problem-solving meetings, such as morning huddles, to resolve KPI performance issues.
Co-ordinate activities related to delivering the production plan.
Providing/support/maintain all legislative and compliance activity as required
Demonstrate role model and winning behaviours to support site culture
Support, motivate, develop and coach the team in order to recognise and reward performance and drive robust succession planning
Relieve the packing operatives
Apply and use autonomous maintenance techniques such as
- Web changes
- Quick change-over
- Condition Based Monitoring
- Inspection, problem solving and repair utilising TPM tools and techniques.
What we are looking for
Previous experience leading an operational team in a Food Manufacturing Environment
Previous experience as a machine operator is desirable however training can be given.
Someone with a positive can-do attitude who can cope well under pressure
Ability to think strategically to enhance site/cultural performance
