With a heritage dating back for generations, Burton’s Biscuit Company continues to thrive as one of the UK’s leading biscuit manufacturers.
Burton’s Biscuit Company has been baking quality biscuits for over 75 years, though our history can be traced back to George Burton (born 1829) who began producing biscuits in Leek, Staffordshire in the mid 1800’s.
Under the family’s stewardship, Burton’s bakery grew swiftly over the next few decades and the company’s biscuits and other snack foods became staples in UK households throughout the 1900’s.
The seeds of Burton’s focus on quality and innovative spirit were planted early on in the company’s history as it pioneered new manufacturing processes and technologies; along with its biscuits winning numerous accolades in international taste tests.
In its more recent past, Burton’s Biscuit Company as it is today was formed in 2000, following the merger of the Horizon Biscuit Company Ltd. and Burton’s Gold Medal Biscuits – the descendant business of the Burton family’s original bakery, which opened its doors in 1935.
The combined business was renamed Burton’s Foods Ltd. and brought together the two companies’ brands and manufacturing capabilities, making Burton’s Foods the second largest biscuit manufacturer in the UK.
Burton’s Foods rebranded to the Burton’s Biscuit Company in November 2011, to better reflect the company’s strategy as a focused leader in the biscuit market, whilst still retaining elements of its historic past.
With a stable of iconic and much loved brands, Burton’s Biscuit Company remains a leading player in the UK biscuit market. Based in St. Albans, it manufactures its products from three main facilities in Blackpool, England; Edinburgh, Scotland and Llantarnam, Wales; operates a chocolate refinery in Moreton; a central distribution hub in Liverpool and a subsidiary office in Blackpool.
