- In 1938 Lyons purchased the Bee Bee Biscuit Company, which was based in Blackpool. Six years later, Lyons decided to change the company’s name to Symbol Biscuits Ltd and began selling biscuits under both the Symbol and Lyons brand names. In 1956 they introduced the now world-famous Maryland cookies.
- In 1990 Lyons made another name change and Symbol Biscuits became Lyons Biscuits Ltd.
Did you know?Margaret Thatcher worked as a chemist for the Lyons company before she became a Conservative Party MP in 1959.
