We joined Burton’s Biscuits at the end of 2017 and have now been official “smart cookies” for 3 months!
We’re excited to be starting this new journey together and to be able to share our experiences through our very own blog – so here is our take on our first 3 months at Burton’s!
Starting at Burton’s
Before joining Burton’s, we, along with another 15 graduates from across the country, were put through our paces during an assessment day filled with group exercises, presentations and interviews. We found the day really relaxed and loved that it gave us a chance to learn more about the company and have a chat with current employees.
We’ve found our first few months at Burton’s really positive and have been very impressed with the induction plan that has been set out for us!
The culture of the business is something that has stood out for us. It is such a positive environment to work in and everyone in the office has been so welcoming and friendly.
Things like the weekly yoga, bootcamp and running clubs have really helped us with meeting new people and integrating within the business quickly. It’s also great to see that Burton’s is putting people’s wellbeing at the forefront of its agenda.
Our Training Program
Emma, Burton’s L&D Manager, put together an induction plan, which focused on fast-tracking our induction into the business and giving us the best possible start into the business for our roles as graduates. Some of the things we got to do include:
- Meet our key internal contacts, including Nick Field our CEO and Simon Browne our COO who we found to be approachable and really welcoming.
- Attend relevant in-house systems training to make sure we’re clued up on the systems Burton’s uses day in day out.
- Factory sites/tours to give us some insights into our manufacturing capabilities – our favourite thing about it? The smell of baking!
- External training days such as The Sales Academy, The Marketing Academy, Kantar, Neilsen and many more!
- External visits to Burton’s creative agencies, Mullen Lowe and UM. These are the guys who helped create our recent TV advert!
Annual Company Conference and Christmas party
Just before Christmas, we attended the annual company conference and Christmas party in St Albans. This was a great opportunity for us to meet colleagues from other sites as well as reflect on the past year and find out more about the exciting plans for the year ahead.
We particularly liked the Pride of Burton’s Awards for individuals and teams who had excelled throughout the year.
In the evening we had our Christmas party which was really fun! We had a photo booth and some food and drinks, it was great for everyone to get together outside of the office
Taking part in the annual Christmas family day at Burton’s showed us what the culture of Burton’s is all about. Meeting our team members’ families and enjoying some festive activities with the business as a whole was a way of celebrating our first couple of months and got us all in the festive spirit! Roll on next Christmas!
Our first three months at Burton’s have gone by in a flash and we feel like we’ve been given a great start with such a thorough induction plan. We’ve all been allocated roles within teams and are excited for the journey ahead!
