1)      When and why did you join Burton’s Biscuit Company?

I joined in September 2010 after my MBA for two main reasons. Firstly, because of the quality and portfolio of everyday brands that I grew up with.  Secondly, because I knew that as number two in the market, Burton’s was hungry for success.

2)      What is the atmosphere like working at Burton’s Biscuit Company?

There is a great atmosphere at work with everyone having the ‘work hard play hard’ mentality. I love the fact that everyone from the ‘latest’ recruit up to director level all air their views/ideas at meetings and are challenged where appropriate with nobody holding back. Everybody knows that we are bettering each other and working towards a common goal.

I love the fact that we have a company football team where even the directors get involved as it really helps the atmosphere here in St. Albans.

3)      What do you love about working at Burton’s Biscuit Company?

It must be said that the people at Burton’s Biscuit Company are fantastic. Everyone works together and everyone is willing to listen to your ideas and offer advice when needed.

I love the fact that your opinions matter and your ideas can be taken up and run with. I love the fact that you are empowered to run with your own ideas and to prove that they work. I love the diversity of my role where one day I am out doing store visits and then next day I am organising the ‘Dodger’ monkeys to do a PR visit to the Llantarnam factory followed by a presentation to the board the day after.

Burton’s Biscuit Company puts the ‘fast’ in FMCG and I love it – constantly go go go.

4)      What does it take to succeed at Burton’s Biscuit Company?

Are you a team player? Are you a passionate person? Do you like working at a fast pace? Do you like to feel empowered and be valuable as a team player when your work and ideas actually matter?

Can you dress up as a Choccie Monkey as a last minute request and say ‘choccie choccie choccie’? If you answered yes to all the above then you would fit right in.

5)      What makes Burton’s Biscuit Company a distinctive place to work?

I would have to say, the diversity of the day to day job and the fact that your work and ideas matter and are actually relied upon by the sales teams and the marketing teams. We hold monthly sales meetings in our factories and the sales and marketing teams sit together which just shows you that we work together as one – hence our motto ‘One team one dream’.

6)      What does ‘Making Every Day More of a Treat’ mean to you?

Crunchie has to wait until Friday for its treat but when you have a selection ranging from Toffypops, Dodgers, Maryland Chunky, Fabulous Fingers to Cadbury Dairy Milk Biscuits how can you wait until Friday?

7)      What’s your favourite biscuit?

I am going to have to say Toffypops. Whenever I go back to Ireland and I mention that we make Toffypops people equate it to working for Willy Wonka as Toffypops are the biscuit of choice there and everyone grows up with them.
